D&G Swim Team - Shared Expectations

What We Ask of You in Training:
These expectations are here to help you train safely, avoid unnecessary injuries, and get the most out of every session.
- Bring your Club kit and the right footwear so you’re properly supported for both pool and land work.
- Arrive on poolside ready to begin, giving yourself time to settle in and complete your pre‑pool routine.
- Stay comfortably and appropriately dressed during stretching so your body stays warm and protected.
- If you can’t make a session, just let your squad coach know. That helps us plan your training and keep things consistent for the whole group.
- Finish your post‑pool routine at home to support recovery and keep your body in good shape for the next session.
Swim Meets:
Working Together
These guidelines help you perform at your best, stay safe throughout the meet, and contribute to a positive, focused team environment.
- Arrive around 30 minutes before warm‑up so you can join the group pre‑pool activity and get into the right mindset.
- Enter competitions as guided by your coach — events are chosen to support your development and confidence.
- Stay on poolside with the team until your coach confirms you’re free to leave, helping us maintain a strong, supportive team presence.
- After each race, complete your swim‑down as advised — it’s essential for recovery and injury prevention.
- Bring enough drinks and snacks to keep your energy steady throughout the session.
- Athletes should stay on poolside during the meet, visiting parents only at the lunch break so focus and team cohesion aren’t disrupted.
- Parents should also avoid approaching swimmers during the session to help maintain a calm, athlete‑centred environment.
- Wear full Club kit throughout the competition and for medal presentations — it builds team identity and pride.
- Keep your electronic devices away during racing sessions as much as you can; they’re fine during breaks or when a reasonable adjustment has been agreed.
If you’re dealing with an injury
Sharing information early helps us support your recovery, adjust your training safely, and prevent the injury from getting worse.
- Firstly, get checked by a qualified professional so you know exactly what you’re dealing with.
- Share the injury details and any rehab plan with your coach and the Strength & Conditioning coach because it helps us tailor your training and keep you safe.
- You’re welcome to choose whichever physiotherapist you prefer. Just let us know the plan so we can support their recommendations.
If you’re feeling unwell:
This guidance helps protect your health and ensures you return to training safely and at the right time.
- Seek medical advice if you’re unsure what the illness is — it’s the safest way to make good decisions.
- Let your squad coach know what’s going on and which sessions you’ll miss; we’ll keep it private and only share what’s necessary to support you.
- If you’re on antibiotics, please complete the full course before returning — it helps prevent complications and keeps you healthy long‑term.
