N&Ds - Northumberland & Durham County Championships

The Northumberland and Durham Swimming Championships are annual competitive events organised by the Northumberland and Durham Swimming Association as part of Swim England North East. These championships serve as a key platform for swimmers across Northumberland, County Durham, Teesside, and North Yorkshire to showcase their skills and progress through the competitive swimming pathway.

 

What the Championships Involve

Individual Events: Races across all strokes and distances, including:

50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m freestyle

50m, 100m, 200m backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly

Individual medley events (200m and 400m)

 

Age Groups: Typically include 10/11yrs, 12yrs, 13yrs, 14yrs, 15yrs, and 16/Over

 

Heats & Finals:

50m and 100m events have heats and finals for all age groups

200m events usually have finals for ages 12 and up

Longer distances (400m, 800m, 1500m) are usually heat-declared winners (HDW)

 

Venue & Timing

Usually held at Sunderland Aquatic Centre, a 10-lane 50m pool with full electronic timing

The 2024 edition took place over two weekends in February
