Our Story

Derwentside and Gateshead Swim Team was formed in 2024 when two long-standing clubs combined to create a single, more efficient programme for swimmers across Derwentside, Gateshead and Whickham.

Derwentside

Derwentside ASC was established in 1987, evolving from Stanley Swimming Club.

The club built a reputation for strong technical coaching and a clear development pathway for young swimmers in the area.

Gateshead & Whickham

Gateshead & Whickham ASC began in the 1970s and developed a solid competitive presence across local and regional meets.

The club became well-known for producing committed swimmers and maintaining a consistent training environment.

The Merger

In 2024, the two clubs joined forces to streamline coaching, share resources, and offer a more consistent pathway for swimmers at all levels.

The merger allows both areas to benefit from combined expertise, improved squad structure, and better long-term planning.

How We Operate Today

The programme now supports swimmers from early development through to regional and national competition.

Training standards are aligned across all squads, and coaching is coordinated to ensure progression is clear and consistent.

Our Area

We represent swimmers from Derwentside, Gateshead and Whickham, competing across the North East and beyond.

The club continues to be supported by swimmers, families, coaches and volunteers from across the region.
