Well, summer is officially here. Meteorologically speaking, at least. The calendar says 1 June, the clouds clearly did not get the memo, and it is absolutely tipping it down across the North East. Classic.
Still, a bit of rain has never stopped a swimmer, and there is plenty to be excited about as we head into what promises to be a busy month for D&G Swim Team.
A Packed June on the Gala Circuit
Three meets on the horizon this month, and they are big ones.
First up, the British Masters Championships head to Aberdeen on 12–14 June, hosted by Scottish Swimming. A fantastic national stage for our Masters swimmers, and we are looking forward to seeing them fly the D&G flag in Scotland.
At the same time, we have our own D&G Summer Medley taking place on 13–14 June at the Louisa Centre, Stanley. A great opportunity for our competitive swimmers to race on home turf — entries are now closed so if you are in, get ready.
Rounding out the month, the Scottish National Open Swimming Championships take place 26–28 June at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh. A stunning venue and a high-quality field — the entry deadline is Saturday 6 June so do not leave it late.
Exam Season — Respect to Those Juggling Both
We know that for many of our older swimmers and their families, this time of year brings a different kind of pressure alongside the racing. Whether it's GCSEs, A-Levels or Uni coursework. Exam season is in full swing, and balancing training, competition, revision, and everything else life throws at you is no small feat. A huge respect to everyone managing that juggle right now. Keep going, you are doing brilliantly on both fronts.
A Warm Welcome to Katie Stobbs
Today also marks a very exciting new chapter for the club. We are delighted to welcome Katie Stobbs as she joins the coaching team, starting today. Katie brings great energy and expertise to the poolside and we know she is going to be a brilliant addition to the D&G family. Welcome aboard, Katie.
Eyes on the Nationals
Beyond June, preparation continues to build toward some major targets later in the summer. The Scottish Summer Meet runs 9–12 July in Aberdeen, followed by the Aquatics GB Next Gen Championships from 16–22 July, and other big one the SE National Summer Meet from 27 July through to 1 August. Three major competitions in quick succession, and training is firmly focused on arriving at each in the best possible shape.
Plenty to look forward to. Now if only the weather would play ball.
