Performance Pathway Overview
Coaching Philosophy
D&G is a performance-focused club with a proven record of developing swimmers to County, Regional, and National level. Our programme is built on two non-negotiable principles:
Progressing swimmers safely and effectively through age-appropriate stages. The right work, at the right time.
All four strokes, developed equally. Technically complete, versatile athletes — built to last.
This combination ensures every swimmer builds the skills, fitness, and race intelligence needed for long-term success.
Why IM-Based Training
An IM foundation is one of the strongest platforms a competitive swimmer can have. It:
- Builds balanced strength and technique across all four strokes
- Reduces the risks of early specialisation
- Improves transitions, underwater work, and pacing
- Creates resilient, adaptable athletes ready for high-performance training
- Aligns with Swim England's LTAD model
IM development is prioritised from the earliest stages through to our top squads. It is not an add-on — it is the programme.
The Athlete Journey
Every swimmer follows a structured, age-appropriate progression:
At every stage, all four strokes remain central. That is not incidental — it is deliberate.
