Heats Results — June 2026
The latest round of Junior League swimming heats brought exciting racing, strong teamwork and fantastic performances across all lanes, with clubs from across the region competing for valuable points.
Derwentside and Gateshead delivered an excellent all-round performance in a highly competitive field. With a full programme of 45 events, every race counted toward the final standings, making consistency and teamwork essential.
The final points table shows a very strong finish for D&G, with an impressive 21 first-place finishes and 224 points — top of the table.
Swimmers demonstrated excellent technique, race awareness and determination throughout. Beyond the numbers, the event showcased everything Junior League stands for: strong team support poolside, encouragement across all age groups, and swimmers stepping up to represent their club with pride.
The team showed not only skill, but also fantastic unity and sportsmanship. Well done swimmers!

Race individually and in relays against teams from across the North East.
Earn Team Points
Every race matters. Placements earn points that go toward your club's score.
It Is All About the Team
No individual medals here. Just bragging rights and team pride.
League Levels & Finals
Three divisions with promotion & relegation, so every point counts.
Top six teams per division make the finals.
Win Division 1 and you represent Northumberland & Durham in the Northern Final.
Win that, and it is on to the National Finals in November.
Who Is Racing?
Age groups: 9, 10, 11, and 12 year olds
Teams: four girls and four boys per age group
Events: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, plus freestyle and medley relays
And the Canon: a noisy, epic 8-person relay to close it all out
Training & Selection
As Junior League approaches, your coaches will work on what is needed for the team to perform at its best.
Coaches will pick the fastest team based on:
Performance in training and races
Positive attitude and effort
Swim-offs and time trials
If you want to swim the final, you have to earn that spot.
Gala Days
Travel on the team bus and arrive buzzing with your teammates
Stay poolside all day. The pace is fast and there is no time to wander
Coaches and Team Managers will guide you through everything
You will be given your races in advance so you are never left guessing
