Behave Like a Champion!

Behave Like a Champion Banner

Champions are kind, respectful, and work hard.
Being a champion isn't just about what happens in the pool. It's about how you treat people every single day.

At Training

Listen to Your Coach

Your coach is there to help you get better. Listen carefully when they're talking and follow their instructions. If you don't understand something, it's okay to ask questions.

Try Your Best

Always give 100% effort in training. Even when it's hard, keep going. That's how you get stronger and faster. Champions never give up.

Be Kind to Your Teammates

Encourage your friends and teammates. Cheer them on, help them when they need it, and never say mean things. We're all on the same team.

Kids Being Kind

Stay Safe

No running on poolside. No pushing or splashing when the coach is talking. Follow all the pool safety rules to keep everyone safe.

Respect the Equipment

Take care of kickboards, pull buoys, and other equipment. Put things back where they belong when you're done. Equipment is for training, not playing.

Be On Time

Arrive ready to start when training begins. Being late means you miss important warm-up time and could miss key instructions from your coach.

At Competitions

Wear Your Club Kit with Pride

Your club kit shows you're part of the team. Wear it properly and keep it clean. When you wear your kit, you represent your whole club.

Cheer for Everyone

Cheer for your teammates AND swimmers from other clubs. Clap and encourage everyone. Good sportsmanship means being happy for others when they do well.

Be a Good Sport

Whether you win or don't win, always be kind and respectful. Shake hands with other swimmers, say "well done," and never brag or be mean. Real champions are humble.

Stay Positive

If a race doesn't go well, don't get upset or angry. Learn from it and go again next time. Your coach and teammates are there to support you.

Respect the Officials

The people in white (officials) are volunteers who help run the competition. Always be polite to them and follow their instructions. They're there to keep everything fair.

Stay Calm and Focused

Competitions can be exciting and a bit nerve-wracking. Stay with your team, listen to your coach, and remember to breathe. You've trained for this.

Keep the Pool Area Clean

Put your rubbish in the bin, keep your area tidy, and don't leave things lying around. We want to leave the pool better than we found it.

Habits Worth Leaving Behind

Nobody's perfect — but champions notice when something isn't right and try to do better.

  • Don't be mean or bully others
This includes teasing, name-calling, or leaving people out on purpose
  • Don't talk back to coaches or officials
Always be respectful, even if you disagree
  • Don't mess around during training
Training time is for getting better, not playing
  • Don't make excuses
Take responsibility for your actions and learn from mistakes
  • Don't show off or brag
Be proud of your achievements but stay humble
  • Don't give up
Keep trying even when things are hard
