Yesterday, Alice Forrest and Talia Staines represented D&G at the Swim England Open Water National Age Group Championships at Rother Valley Country Park in Sheffield. Both took on the 7.5km event. Here is how they got on.
Talia Staines
Silver — National Age Group Championships
Talia came home with the silver medal at a national championship. That is an outstanding result by any measure, and a testament to the consistency and grit she has shown all season. Brilliant, Talia.
Alice Forrest
Alice swam a superb race, particularly given it's only her third Open Water event. She covered 7.5km of open water and, based on her finishing time, would have placed 8th overall. Unfortunately, she was dq'd at the very end of the race. That's sport and it's gutting, but it happens, and it does not change the quality of what she achieved in the water. Alice knows she swam well, she's taken a lot from the experience, and she will be back. We are proud of her.
Both athletes had already competed at the Aquatics GB Next Gen Championships earlier in the week. To then turn up and race 7.5km at national level takes a particular kind of athlete. Alice and Talia are exactly that.
