Emily Maxwell — Swim Teacher

Emily Maxwell — Swim Teacher

Emily Maxwell, Level 2 Swim Teacher, D&G Swim Team Level 2 Swim Teacher

Some of you will know Emily Maxwell from the pool. She has been swimming with D&G for ten years and has spent most of that time quietly getting on with the business of being a very good swimmer. This week, she swaps the water for the poolside.

Emily has just qualified as a Level 2 Swim Teacher and starts working with our Learn to Swim group straight away. We are really pleased to have her.

She knows what it actually feels like

Emily competes regularly at the highest level of domestic swimming in the UK, qualifying across several events. Her best is the 100m Butterfly. Anyone who has watched her race will know she does not do things by halves.

Emily started swimming lessons with Durham County Council at three years of age and from there, progressed to club level swimming at nine years old. She knows what it is like to be a nervous beginner, and she understands the journey from there to competing at the top end of the sport. That kind of perspective, and her positivity, will be invaluable on poolside.

She has been part of this club since she was young. She knows the culture, she knows the standards, and none of that comes from a textbook.

What happens next

Emily joins Paul Thurlow and the rest of the teaching team at Birtley Community Pool on Sundays, 3:00pm to 4:30pm. If your child is in the Learn to Swim programme, you will likely see her on poolside from this week.

Welcome to the team, Emily.
